Demo and Class Descriptions

Saturday Demonstrations — FREE

Fusion Quilt: How to construct a quilt with the blocks joined with crochet. Margy will discuss her formation of the ideas for her fusion quilt and the details of making the quilt.

Pieced Applique-How to Machine Sew a Set-in Circle: Based on Sharon Shamber’s book called “Piec-lique”, this demonstration will show how to inset a circle into a background block. Circles and other gently curves shapes inserted into background fabric by machine, using freezer paper templates (no pins).

UFO Challenge: Get those UFO (un-finished objects) completed!! The demonstration is based on information from Betsy Langford’s American Quilting Society blog, Pat Scully’s experiences with the Southern Comforters, and Jean’s own prioritized organization with examples.

Freezer Paper Piecing: Julia, a Certified Gem Affiliate, will demonstrate the techniques that artist and designer MJ Kinman has used to create her giant gem quilts for over 20 years. These quilts are not foundation paper pieced; they use freezer paper templates that are simple and forgiving to use.

Spirit Flags: Spirit Flags are 5″ x 8″ pieces of cloth that are decorated with images that have meaning for the maker or recipient. Learn how to make easy, fun flags that show your spirit. Flags can be made with images, text, stitching to portray hopes, dreams, wishes, express encouragement or comfort. They can be used for decoration or fly outdoors to let your spirit soar. I’ll provide directions and show you samples of this great project idea for family gatherings, classroom, scouts, or just for you.

Use Your Photo to Design An Art Quilt: Do you have some of your own photos that you would like to make into art quilts? But you don’t know where to start? I can help you! We’ll discuss composition, cropping, values, translating the image into fabric, and other considerations.

Handwork Folder: Donna will show you how to make yourself a beautiful, personalized folder which holds tools to help you make handwork anywhere! It also protects your works in progress.

Travel Sewing: Susan will share her tips for taking your sewing with you when you travel around town or around the world.

Don’t Forget to Label Your Quilts: There are so many creative ways to label your quilts, and we will be going over several of them in this demonstration. It’s your legacy for all those good people in the future looking at your work and wondering how?, what?, when?, and why? you did that quilt. Let’s get creative and prudent on signing our works of art for posterity.
