Mission

Quilts + Community

We were formed in 1982 with a purpose to promote appreciation of the rich heritage of quilting through educational opportunities by presenting speakers, workshops and other activities related to quilt making.

Our Values

Quilts and quilting encourage expressions of individualism, creativity, knowledge, and enthusiasm which are shared with others. We welcome guests as we provide a gathering place to promote fellowship with those who share a common interest. Take part in our guild and share our love of quilts and help to promote quilting for future generations.

History

Our Humble Beginnings

On May 12, 1982, a meeting was held at The Stitchery in Bowie, Maryland. Ten ladies were in attendance with Cheryl Lowe chairing the meeting. Four names were suggested and voted on for the Chapter: Southern Comforters, Bowie Bee, Bowie Quilters, and Bowie Cover-ups.

One kind word can warm three winter nights.
