This fabric was for the 2008 Hoffman Challenge and life got in the way, so it seemed appropriate to make a silk purse. The phrase "pig's ear" means a useless object. To attempt to "make a silk purse out of a sow's ear" means to try in vain to make something good out of something worthless..
